In the summer of 2006, a group of Bolivar
citizens took on a project designed to
benefit the entire town, county and area.
A 3.1’ acre piece of land at the corner of
Hall Street (old Aldrich Road) and Meadow
Lane was donated to the city of Bolivar
by Charles Fraser. At the same time, John
Playter, a 51-year Rotarian and survivor of
the Bataan Death March in World War II,
moved from Bolivar to the Missouri Veterans
Home in Mount Vernon. It was decided
to create on this site a place of honor, relaxation
and recreation and to call this special
place “John Playter Rotary Park.”
The goals of the John Playter Park
project include:
Honor John Playter’s military experience,
and allow others to honor or pay
tribute to their own loved ones.
Create recreational and relaxing public
green space.
Honor Mr. Playter’s commitment to
lifetime service through Rotary.
Provide historical education.
Provide education on the importance
of clean, safe water for daily living.
Help raise money to develop the John Playter Rotary Park
While the Bolivar Rotary
Club and grants from governmental and corporate
agencies will provide core funding, we
seek the help of those who wish to honor John,
beautify our city, and pay tribute to loved ones
through leaving a lasting gift to the John Playter
Rotary Park Fund.
Volunteer and in-kind contributions are also
needed. Call (417) 777-5780 to discuss options.
Gifts of $5 or more will be recognized through
our account with Community Foundation of the
Ozarks (501(c)(3)), and may be tax deductible.
Please make checks payable to the John Playter Rotary Park Fund, P.O. Box 296, Bolivar MO 65613 and mail along with the form. Download the brochure and form here.
Information about both forms of giving is available by contacting Tim Erickson at (417) 777-5780.
